Shoot 7 - Experimenting with Film

To develop my current stage of creating the politicians heads out of clay, I wanted to experiment with the idea of producing a video piece for my final exam outcome including a variety of footage of the sculptures I've made as well as using news archival footage to piece together and explain the narrative (or as much as I can figure out) of the way Brexit is today.

Another A Level subject I take is film studies, and by using my knowledge of this (being how to analyse film, as well as creating my own) could really benefit and create a strong final piece.

Picking out key aspects of film making and story telling by including the following:

- Some form and structure of narrative

- Defining who the 'characters' are and how they react and correspond with each other

- Editing techniques using sound and visual sources

As of the criteria and brief of Component 2, I will be including my own personal response to Britain being "Fractured" from the events of Brexit. From this, I will be inserting my own opinion and outlook onto the situation by including specific footage, making the viewer question the actions being discussed and evaluating my perspective being the filmmaker.

Shoot 7 - iMovie Film Experimentation

To evidence the use of being able to produce and work  within a film creating software, I created a brief video mocking Brexit using a series of clips I found on Youtube.

Features of video footage taken from:

BBC News Report -

This process took a few hours in itself by sitting down to watch the footage, then editing the individual clips together,  looking for the specific dialogue of people saying "Brexit." To create the experimented short video, I used the software called iMovie which is a basic but effective software to produce films quickly. The software has a simple choice of editing techniques, such as filters and transition styles to include.

As this was a time consuming process, I decided to repeat the clips found multiple times, as well as using a feature to speed up the pace of the video.

From having the repeated aspect of "Brexit" emphasises the controversy the subject has between people, as well as drawing the focus point on the situation of the referendum results of Britain to leave the European Union in 2016 comparing the current placement Britain is as a country has just been divided from this, being frustrated from the 'limbo' the country has been as no deal has been made or put in place from Parliament.

In this shoot, I have learned that I need to include some form of narrative within the video. By doing this will inform the viewer of the past, present and future of Brexit, as well as including my own opinions to manipulate the viewer to consider aspects of Brexit which have been looked over, such as politicians campaigning and lying to the public eye with no repercussions.

To improve on my next shoot, I will break the timeline down of Brexit as this will help tell the story of the events, using a linear structure. Also including the footage and narrative in chronological order of when the events occurred. From this, I can include the idea of the clay model politicians and feature them in the Brexit scenario, breaking off parts of them to signify the individuals decline within their party of public popularity.
